At the same time as the World Malaria Day, the representative of the World Health Organization in Afghanistan announces the increase in the number of cases of this disease in the country.
This organization wrote in X that despite significant efforts, 180,718 cases of this disease were registered in Afghanistan in 2023, which shows a 30% increase compared to 2022 and a double increase compared to 2021.
This organization emphasizes the urgent need to coordinate efforts to fight malaria in Afghanistan.
At the same time, Dr. Jamshid Tanoli, head of the World Health Organization’s representative office in Afghanistan, has emphasized on dealing with patients suffering from this disease without discrimination.

“We must redouble our efforts to fight malaria not only as a health issue, but also as an equity issue, by eliminating discrimination and bringing health care closer to where people live.”

The organization says it must be ensured that everyone – especially the most vulnerable, such as returnees, pregnant women and children – receive the prevention, diagnosis and treatment necessary to fight the disease.
