The special human rights rapporteur for Afghanistan considered the deadly floods in Afghanistan to be a consequence of the climate crisis and demanded immediate assistance from international organizations to the flood victims.
In a message on X, Richard Bennett wrote that “the recent floods in Afghanistan, including Baghlan, which claimed many lives, are a reminder of Afghanistan’s vulnerability to the climate crisis and require immediate assistance and long-term planning by the Taliban and domestic actors.”

This UN official expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
