The Bakhtar News Agency, under Taliban control, reported on Sarajuddin Haqqani’s meeting with some Afghans residing in European countries.
The acting interior minister of the Taliban in this meeting, referring to the issue of education, stated that this matter concerns them and the world has no right to interfere. He said:
“The issue of education is relevant to us; we will provide the groundwork for it ourselves. Because this matter concerns our children, and no one cares more about our children than us.”
Haqqani also commented on the group’s relations with the world, saying, “We want relations with the world based on mutual respect. We do not accept others dictating to us that our national government should not be in harmony with us.”
This comes as the Taliban, upon regaining power in Afghanistan, have prevented girls from attending schools and universities. The group has yet to respond positively to any international calls for the reopening of schools for girls.
