Taliban Shuts Down Community-Based Education Classes Supported by the UN
Local sources in the provinces of Paktika and Logar have confirmed that the Taliban has shut down community-based education classes for girls that were operating with the support of the United Nations.
Images from the scene show educational materials, including desks and chairs, being collected and loaded for removal. In another image, a large number of young girls wearing traditional clothing and white headscarves are seen standing in line against a wall — a place that until recently had served as their classroom.
These community classes have been closed at a time when formal education for girls above the sixth grade is already banned by the Taliban across Afghanistan. Many families had turned to these locally organized classes as the only remaining opportunity for their daughters to continue learning.
So far, the United Nations has not issued any official response regarding the closure of these classes.
