Half of Married Afghan Women Experience Physical Violence
The UK Mission to Afghanistan, citing the World Health Organization (WHO), has reported that a significant number of married Afghan women face various forms of violence.
According to the report, 46% of married women in Afghanistan have experienced physical violence, 34% have suffered emotional abuse, and 6% have been subjected to sexual violence.
These figures were shared in a post published on Tuesday, May 13 (23rd of Sawr), by the UK Mission on the social media platform X.
The post highlights the vital role men must play in reducing and ultimately ending gender-based violence. Quoting several Afghan men, it emphasizes the need for a societal shift in attitudes toward women.
One man, Adam, 29, from Paktika province, said: “Supporting women and girls is not a sign of weakness—it is a reflection of true character.
We must be their allies, friends, and defenders.” Another man from Kabul added: “As Afghan men, we must teach our sons to respect women and lead by example. Violence has no place in our families, our culture, or our religion.”
