U.S. President Donald Trump has responded to a warning by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who said a U.S. attack could trigger a regional war, stating that if the two sides fail to reach an agreement, it will become clear whether Khamenei’s claim is correct.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said: “If we don’t reach a deal, then we’ll find out whether he was right or not.”
Trump emphasized that the United States currently has the world’s largest military force positioned near Iran. He added: “Why shouldn’t he say that? Of course he’s going to say it. But we have the maximum pressure anywhere in the world — very close, within a day or two — and we hope to reach a deal. If we don’t, then we’ll see whether he was right.”
Earlier, Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, warned that any military action by the United States against Iran could lead to a broader regional conflict.
