The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a meeting between Amir Khan Mutaqi, the acting minister, and Alexander Matheou, the regional director for Asia and the Pacific of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

In this meeting, the Taliban expressed their desire for assistance and cooperation from this organization in the healthcare sector under Taliban administration in Afghanistan.

According to the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs newsletter, citing Alexander Matheou, the Red Cross spent 28 million Swiss francs last year on healthcare, natural disasters, and providing drinking water in Afghanistan.

Simultaneously, the World Health Organization in Afghanistan reported training over 500 doctors, nurses, and midwives in the country.

The organization stated in its account that these trainings included “basic emergency care.”

The World Health Organization added that these trainings aimed to improve and provide services in “life-saving healthcare” sectors in local hospitals.

Recently, the United Nations warned in its latest report that nearly 16,000 people in Afghanistan will require humanitarian assistance in 2024.
